Giving your kitchen a designer look

June 2, 2014 in Altavista Property, by Michael Liggan

Giving your kitchen a designer look is not as difficult as you might think and it will help up-selling your property.

To refresh your kitchen the main change is to think modern. Modern kitchens are mainly straight lines.

The key to a modern kitchen is getting the right cabinets. Cabinets with no handles but push to open, doors with a flat profile and a gloss finish.

If you want to go in a different direction, you can choose traditional-style handles and industrial-style suspended lights complemented with baskets, pot plants or fruit bowls.

A flat-pack-type kitchen is an option if you are in a tight budget.

Using space-saving corner units to open up dead space, opting for drawers over cupboards and using soft-touch drawer runners and door hinges are key to take advantage of space and storage.

Including lighting at floor level adds another dimension to your kitchen while lighting under overhead cupboards or breakfast bars also looks great.

A quality worktop will give your kitchen a work area durable enough to withstand every day use with that designer look that you want.

A splash-back gives a sophisticated feel to your kitchen and integrated appliances are minimalist and elegant while still being stylish.

Spanish Property Market Boosted By Golden Visa

May 21, 2014 in by Michael Liggan

Spain’s property market is continuing to be boosted by the ‘Golden Visa’ scheme according to the latest report from international property firms.

The second home market in particular is looking strong, however the property market as a whole is seeing better performance thanks to the government scheme which offers residency to those purchasing properties of €500,000 or more. The scheme has been particularly popular with non-EU residents including those in China.

Areas such as Ibiza and Marbella continue to be favourable destinations for investors and buyers, particularly as they have high levels of tourism and property owners can yield strong rental returns on second homes in the holiday season. The properties in these two destinations tend to be of luxury high-end standard so attract investors looking to spend at the higher end of the market, especially if they are also wishing to obtain a residency visa.

Stephen Lahiri, of Lucas Fox estate agency, is reportedly handling three enquiries per day from wealthy investors seeking properties with visas, mainly from the Middle and Far East. He commented: “Demand is outstripping supply and prices of plots for developments are starting to increase. Reports suggest that Marbella is the fastest-growing market in Spain in terms of increase in number of sales, with average prices of luxury property at around €4,500 to €6,000 plus per square metre.”

The Spanish property market is recovering and showing signs of coming back after the recession. Locations such as Marbella are not only popular tourist destinations but also seeing lots of interest from buyers and investors as they flock back to Spain and its property market.

The world of cocktails

March 25, 2014 in by Michael Liggan

The world of cocktails is today as full of possibilities with the goal of finding new combinations, or ‘reinvent’ the classics.

The latter is precisely an interesting proposal with a look back at some of the most legendary combinations, reinventing them and giving them a ‘Spanish’ touch  with two popular distillates: Brandy and Anís. The result? These two appetizing examples of ‘Spanish’ cocktails.

‘Spanis Old Fashioned’

The cocktail ‘Spanish Old Fashioned’ is inspired by traditional drink ‘Old Fashioned’. In this case boldly combined with essence of citrus. The effect achieved is to wrap the palate on a journey to the authentic taste of Brandy but with contemporary spark that adds freshness of orange.

5cl Brandy
1 lump of brown sugar
5 or 6 drops of angostura
Orange Peel
1 dash of soda

‘Anís Sweet&Dry’

320px-Memorial_Day_margaritasThis cocktail is inspired by the traditional ‘Margarita’ and it is a surprising mix of anise, a dose of citrus and a touch of chocolate. There are many stories about the origin of this cocktail but they said that a waiter Tijuana created after becoming fascinated by the beauty of a young dancer named Margarita Carmen Cansino, who later became one of the most famous actresses in Holywood, Rita Hayworth.

5cl dry anise
5cl Sour Mix (Natural lemon + sugar)
Chocolate Syrup

Space travel to boost Spain’s property market

March 20, 2014 in Altavista Property, Spain News, by Michael Liggan

According to Mark Stucklin “changing technology like fast trains, or new business models like low cost air travel have helped lift the demand curve. If sub-orbital space travel becomes a reality, and not just limited to billionaires, then I imagine it would increase demand for high-end property in Spain. However, I can’t see it happening anytime soon.”

Sub-orbital flights are able to cut the London to Sydney journey time down from 21 hours in an aircraft to 2.2 hours, New York to Moscow from 9 hours 20 minutes to just one hour, and San Francisco to Singapore from 16 hours 50 minutes to 1.8 hours.

In similar direction, Liam Bailey points that “take second homes in Europe, right now demand is mainly restricted to European investors, who try to limit their travel to less than two hours”.
